Abstract Colorful Landscape ArtMy abstract colorful multi-media painting was a break-through piece. I painted the artwork by hand using Zbrush digital sculpting media, collage, and multiple layers of Plexiglas. I created it by observation without the use of photography. The imagery of this artwork began as a public art project. Also check out my commuter bus!

My toolbox was enormous for this project. I used materials that ranged from razor blades...to little glass beads found in my daughters' bedrooms.
MORE ABOUT “SPLATTER”
The imagery of this artwork began as a public art project. Check out my commuter bus! Splatter was created with unique images purposefully painted, drawn and collaged onto multiple layers of glass to achieve physical and perceived-depth. Attention to color theory and skilled painting qualities inform these organic hi-definition forms mostly made with Zbrush. The forms are intentionally crafted rather than by an accidental splatter. I’m fascinated with emerging technologies such as 3D digital sculpting and printing, virtual reality and augmented reality, so I apply cutting-edge technologies, and I experiment with them as much as possible.

A funny recount...
Sometimes when I'm full-engaged in a project like this one, I can't stop working on it until it's complete. One late night, in the madness of my studio, I was nearing completion. The resin was drying evenly after applying it ever-so-delicately to the surface. I was almost at a peaceful point. Then I took note of a fluttering moth attracted to the bright studio lights. In disbelief, I watched this thing land right in the resin. I decided to scrape him out. I was sure he was going to be cemented in resin, but he came out. To my surprise, he fluttered off again. I went berserk - swatting the moth away from my drying piece until he finally disappear somewhere in the rafters never to be seen again. He probably landed and finished drying onto his surface forever. And I was fine with that ending!
The many details |
Many of the individual images in the composition were digitally-sculpted. Each have their own personalities. In fact, many of them were named by my daughters. For example, Pink Brownie, Laker, Fire Face, Fiona, Blueberry, and Red Right. See if you can find these in the piece.
