COMMUNITY THRIVES...

WHEN ARTISTS THRIVE.
That was one consensus among participants at the round table discussion.  We participated in a workshop on Dec 1st as stakeholders of the arts in Iowa with the goal of improving conditions so that all artists thrive .

The event was hosted by Des Moines Arts Festival and Bravo Greater Des Moines.  Our moderator was artist and arts and business strategist, Chris Dahlquist.  She presented a framework for what it takes for an artist of any discipline to have a thriving art practice, and the components necessary to grow the artist ecosystem, furthering both the artist's individual practice as well as the artist's contribution to the economic and cultural vitality of our region.

We broke into small groups to identify which necessary components are currently available in the Des Moines region and what's missing.  It was a colorful and productive meeting.

Many artists are serious about building a business and helping others find resources - much like entrepreneurs in other fields.

As a follow up, Des Moines will develop programming that is tailored to the needs of artists in our area. Goal 👌: create an even more quality arts ecosystem in Greater Des Moines.

We need to hear from individual artists and organizations.

How you can help:
-Take the survey linked below.
-Share the survey (The survey is designed for artists of all disciplines both amateur and professional, creative enterprises/businesses, and arts organizations that live or operate in Greater Des Moines.)

A community that thrives always has a strong leader. In my opinion, the leader is the one that sets the tone for all of these successful communities. If you do not have a leader that can lead you to the promised land, then that is just sad. I live in a community that has a strong leader, which is why I can tell you all of these. It is important that you get a strong leader than can help you with stuff.
