'Building Art Like A Builder' Collection at South of Grand Social

The view across the street

As a studio artist, Brent gets asked to source his inspiration for the things he creates.  The popular response is that "my visual experience is enough to influence my artwork daily."

What he has a passion for is the pursuit of intelligently-informed Art that pushes boundaries.  The Art's aesthetic appeal is not necessarily the #1 objective of the artwork, though the ones most dear accomplish that.

To clarify, consider this.  If you are standing in your living room looking out the window, what do you see?

The answer might be the house across the street and some trees plus a utility pole.  Brent would add the sight-pathway to those objects which includes the square chair, the window frame, the diamond-shaped grating, and the diagonal rain.  Plus, he'd scoot to the right just to position himself in the perspective of the walkway leading up to the neighbor's house.
This is not unlike an architect or builder, like our friend, Nicholas Donlin, at Zenith Design + Build would approach a plan for a custom project.

What you’re seeing in this post is a collection of artwork that was on display on April 13 at The South of Grand Social hosted by Zenith Design + Build.  This drawing is a solid example of the commonality between Brent's Art and a builder’s construction process.

Much the same, Brent begins with a spatial analysis of the environment, then develops the architectural layout before finishing with details.  You can see this best through the lens of his structural line drawings, such is Studio V.

"I intentionally leave strategic evidence of my process through the art development.  That point being to lend a sense of movement to the landscape; and beyond that, to document the evolution through my visual exploration."
“My studio is long and narrow with a north-facing window in Downtown Des Moines, IA. I know every edge, crack and surface like the back of my hand. Studio V is a cityscape made out of a studio. If you see the hotel rooms, what else do you see?”

Pop-Up Gallery in Lower Level

If you ventured downstairs, you saw many pieces from the studio that were produced over Brent's career.

Do you see something you love in the collection?  Studio Holland Art permits prospective collectors to take an artwork home to see if a piece of art fits into your décor or just fits into your life.  The timeframe is generally three to four days.  Inquire about test driving artwork.

If this is the kind of gallery you're going to visit, then sure thing it's going to be worth the time! Everything that I've see here was good. There was always a hidden message in each painting that I've seen. Some were sad, but there are also paintings that represent a happy emotion. if we are not into arts, I am sure it will be a hard time for us to understand the message. Just like I have mentioned, I want to see this pop-up gallery anytime soon!
